Fiddling around on my fingertips. Learning. What? (1) This way is a nice break for the wrists, and my fingers feel strong and okay. It’s not as rough as it looks. Thumb pad/muscle is a little tired now, a few hours after practicing. (2) It is much harder to balance, duh, not sure I learned that. I think I knew that. (3) It is much harder to maintain integrity in my core, and sway back happens right away. (4) My arms naturally stay straighter, even kicking up, even that left one that always wants to bend. I like that.

Not bad learning. For a Monday morning with dishes still in the sink. Handstands are fun.

Do yoga. Today. Every day.

Peace and practice,

Twelve days into the Okinawan handstand challenge and I can already feel a difference in my stability upside down. And I am playing around with stuff that never made sense before. Part of me really didn’t think this challenge would make a huge difference, as I practice regularly. And handstands, while not necessarily part of my daily practice, have become pretty common in my life. But it is already clear, this is definitely different. Very much so. Exciting! I can’t imagine what 120 days will feel like.

If you want to know more about the challenge, go to http://www.YogaNag.com and look down left menu for the Okinawan Handstand Challenge, including some video how tos.

Do yoga. Today. Every day.

“The fact of a door frame.” Playing with handstand, and bam, this Adrienne Rich line falls from my lips out loud, from my previous life as English lit and women’s studies person. And then a meandering slither through the gush of memories and feelings from that time, all while I practiced. Yoga induced flashbacks. The fact of a door frame. Indeed.

Do yoga. Today. Every day.

London bridges falling down. Puppy play date yoga, and apparently, I am one of the puppies. It was a day of unsuccessful, clumsy, donkey-kick handstands. These pups quickly took the edge off.

Do yoga. Today. Every day.

“So I can say yeah yeah yeah.”

Handstand hang time perfectly timed to country radio playing in the background.  (Yep, I am still noshing on some of those leftovers from my southern road trip, my favorite car music for the stories and the company when everyone in the car is asleep).
