HELLO thoracic and shoulder opener with Dwi Pada Viparita Dandasana. A hard one. Trying to keep it in my upper back with the knees bent. Not really ready for the straight legs if I have any integrity elsewhere. All for Day 15 of #julyyogachallenge #backtobackbends with @kinoyoga @beachyogagirl @aloyoga.
Backbends are hard, @yogioneandonly @sevans880 @cardigansarah @extendyoga.

There are some of my hardest poses in this yoga challenge! Yowza. Straddle splits is one of mine. Like ha ha, very funny, full straddle splits. Eeeeeeks. This version is tolerable. Imagining the full one feels like a million miles away.
What challenges you in your practice? What do you perhaps avoid doing until someone, a teacher or a challenge, asks….
Still doing this #julyyogachallenge, which has many poses that are hard from me, including this one….because
of the reverse prayer arms. Right shoulder and wrist hate this. So interesting to do poses I don’t normally do in my home practice. I won’t share all, even if I manage to make my way through the whole challenge, especially on vacation, but this is a good one, #pyramidpose or #parsvottanasana. You don’t need to do these arms. Can do hands on floor or blocks. Or hold onto elbows behind you.
In honor of the holiday, I thought of practicing all of the poses that embody a sense of freedom for me, the poses I love. But I am doing this yoga challenge, which includes a lot of poses I don’t love. (#julyyogachallenge #backtobackbends with @kinoyoga @beachyogagirl @aloyoga) So, I had to get to work. And I learned a ton, as usual, on my mat. The poses I don’t love, the ones that are very hard for me, do create an amazing sense of freedom afterwards. Like the one above, #revolved #sideanglepose or #parivrrtaparsvakonasana. I can’t do full pose with back heel down very well so I modify and lift my back heel.
And one legged crow, which is hard hard HARD for me….
This pose is especially difficult for this yogi from headstand. Maybe one day I will get it without the pass through crow. (VIDEO at http://www.YogaNag.com)
And then, for the grand finale, FREEDOM! Savasana. I love this one. Especially after hard work.
What are the poses that make you feel free afterwards? Are there other ways you celebrate this holiday besides BBQs and beer.
Do #yoga. Today. Everyday.

Today’s practice was limited. Lots of time working in the yard. Forward bending. And squatting. Afterwards, this smart and simple pose felt great. It is also a favorite, #sideanglepose or #parsvakonasana. A good one. These standing poses are the sustenance of my practice in many ways. Try it.
Today’s is in honor of Day 3 of the #julyyogachallenge #backtobackbends with @kinoyoga @beachyogagirl @aloyoga
Kisses to my challenge partners and friends @yogioneandonly @sevans880 @cardigansarah @extendyoga @likadc. Still on board.
