Balance Challenge

This is my balance challenge for the moment. What is yours?

Challenge your balance today. Your way. Stand on one foot. Walk an imaginary tightrope. You get to pick your challenge. Then, feel your wobbles. Breathe. Fall. Laugh. Repeat. Practice balancing, breathing, falling, laughing. It may make your day a little lighter. And will likely build stability for your body later on down the road. According to an article in last week’s Washington Post: “As with most physical abilities, you can either use it or lose it. You don’t often think about practicing your balance, but you should, experts say….”

BAM! So, get up and do something that challenges your balance. Yes, right now. NAG NAG. “It’s never too early — or too late — to start. You can benefit, whether you’re in your 20s, 50s or 80s. But starting early is always the best choice.” (Post article, Work on Balance Now to Avoid Falls When You Are Older.)

Got Balls?

These balls have been providing nearly divine relief in my grippy hips and quads. They are a great alternative to rollers. As recommended by my wise and wonderful physical therapist. The pink girl–now known as Pink Lady–is the latest addition to my tool box. She is very precise. And a little bit mean. But I am very grateful for her hard work afterwards.

Heron

Do I look like a heron?  Inspired by @extendyoga FUN POSE FRIDAY to do a pose I never do. This one took some warm up for sure. And yes, it was fun–all of it, the warm up, the shape, and the breath that came with it. I love yoga. Thanks extendYoga!

GRACE

Balance

BALANCE. Stand on one foot. Balance. Breathe. Then stand on the other. Balance. Breathe. Any variation. Just find your balance and breathe. Why?  So many reasons. For those of us who still consider ourselves young-ISH, today’s reason is about aging well, keeping all of our parts intact and not falling…by practicing our balance now, today. If balance is hard for you, keep practicing, hold onto a wall at first and get used to shifting weight from one foot, and then the other. Also, use a spot, keeping your eyes focused on a point on the floor about 4-5 feet in front of you.

If balance is easy for you, keep practicing, challenging yourself by lifting gaze upward or away to one side. Or even closing your eyes.

Yoga Pant Love

Yep. It’s true. Some moments are entirely superficial. I love these new pants so much I am giving them a hug. So there. Not leggings but super good for moving around the mat. And around town. Now I can go to Montana where that state rep is trying to ban leggings.

Move Your Body and Breathe

Hello friends!

I think I may be crawling out from underneath this heavy rock called winter. I don’t know for sure. There is still some snow in my front yard in MARYLAND! But the sun is shining and temps are rising. I am feeling a return, which may mean more nagging again.

Here’s something I have been doing. More movement and focusing on my breath throughout the day, as compared to one long single practice. Shoulder shrugs, stretching, wiggling, dancing, smiling, breathing. Ahhhh. It does make my body and my mind feel infinitely better.

So….right now: Stand up. Wiggle. Stretch. Dance. Smile. Breath moves in. Breath moves out. And maybe even do a little yoga. Now. Today. Throughout the day. Everyday.
